Videate's got a couple baseball fans for sure, our very own Jack Lombardi played professionally, and Zach Munz is a self-proclaimed washed up varsity shortstop. So with that, and an inspiration from new customer Courtney O'Reilly at Cin7, we decided to turn to the boys of Summer as a theme...in Spring.
Spring training isn’t just for baseball—it’s the perfect time for teams to step up their game in training, onboarding, and customer education. If you’re looking for a fresh way to motivate your team to create, update, or optimize software training videos, why not turn it into a home run?
Introducing the Spring Training Video Challenge—a simple, engaging way to encourage video content creation and improvement while rewarding participation. Here’s how you can set it up for your company!
Think of video creation as a baseball game—your team earns hits, bases, and home runs based on their progress. You can customize this based on your goals, but here’s a framework to get started:
⚾ Single (Base Hit) → Create a new training video
Every time a team member creates a new software training or onboarding video, they advance to first base.
⚾ ⚾ Double → Review & update an outdated video
If someone refreshes an old video—updating scripts, visuals, or voiceovers—they move to second base.
⚾ ⚾ ⚾ Triple → Optimize a video for better engagement
This could mean adding captions, improving narration, or adjusting pacing to make the video more engaging. Third base, here we go!
Home Run → A video exceeds X views or engagement - IT'S OUTTA HERE!
Set a goal (e.g., 100 views, 20 comments, or positive feedback from customers), and when a video hits that milestone, it's a home run!
Want to make it even more competitive? Introduce MVPs (Most Valuable Players) for the most creative or most effective videos.
MLB's got the Commissioner's Trophy, but you don't need that hardware to reward your team. Here are some creative ways to reward participation:
🏆 Team leaderboard – Track progress on a virtual scoreboard and celebrate top contributors.
🍩 Breakfast of Champions – Bring in coffee and donuts for the team with the most videos created in a week.
🎟️ Raffle Entries – Every hit (or base reached) earns an entry into a prize drawing at the end of the challenge.
🏅 Grand Slam Prize – The person with the most home runs at the end gets a fun reward (gift card, team lunch, or even a coveted office trophy).
By turning video training into a fun, engaging competition, your team will:
✅ Increase video production – More training content means better onboarding and customer success.
✅ Enhance video quality – A focus on updates and optimizations ensures content stays fresh and effective.
✅ Boost team engagement – Making video creation a game keeps employees excited and motivated.
✅ Improve customer experience – Better training videos = better user adoption and retention.
Spring is the perfect time for a refresh—whether it’s baseball, training videos, or customer education. Set up your Spring Training Video Challenge and see how much your team can hit out of the park!
Have a creative twist on this idea? We’d love to hear how your team gamifies video creation!
